DETROIT, April 20 (UPI) -- A 70-year-old man is in custody in Detroit for allegedly causing a bomb scare at the Motor City Casino with suspicious packages, police said Monday.

Detroit Police Department spokesman James Tate said the unidentified suspect stands accused of leaving seven packages inside the casino's garage Sunday, prompting a bomb scare and lockdown procedures, the Detroit Free Press said.

"They were fashioned to appear to be pipe bombs, but they were no threat," Tate said of the packages. "They used surveillance video, and he was a patron. It's still unclear on a motive as to why."

The Detroit News said the packages were detonated by a police bomb squad as a precaution despite being considered fake.

Casino visitors were allowed to continue gambling, as well as leave and enter the Detroit property, during the lockdown of the site's garage.

The News said as an additional precaution, police also investigated the two other casinos in Detroit for similar situations.
