Police seek man in illegal circumcisions

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 19 (UPI) -- Swedish police say they suspect a man stripped of his license to conduct circumcisions is responsible for serious injuries to two young boys.

Two boys, ages 8 and 5, were treated by emergency doctors in Stockholm this weekend as a result of injuries sustained during illegal home circumcisions, which police say they believe were carried out by the same man who lost his National Board of Health and Welfare license in 2007 after allegedly injuring several young boys, the Swedish news agency TT reported.

"This person must be stopped. This is a matter of urgency," Marie Hansson, a welfare board lawyer, told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Stockholm police told reporters they will interview the boys and their parents.

TT said people who don't have any officially recognized medical qualifications can, in special cases, apply to the health and welfare board for a license to conduct circumcisions.
