Police: Saggy-pants robber in custody

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla., April 19 (UPI) -- Police in Florida say they have the so-called saggy-pants robber in custody following a foiled convenience store robbery.

Jim Leljedal, a spokesman for the Broward County Sheriff's Office, said 19-year-old Luke M. Singletary III was identified as the saggy-pants robber after being arrested allegedly attempting to rob a store early Saturday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Leljedal said Singletary was shot in the rear by police officers, who came across the teen as he allegedly was preparing to rob a Circle K store.

Also in custody was 20-year-old Terrence Williams, who authorities allege was Singletary's driver for the planned robbery.

"We believe we have the saggy-pants robber and the getaway driver -- both of them wounded," Leljedal said of the suspects, who both have non-life-threatening injuries.

A single robber conspicuous for his low-riding pants has been credited with 28 robberies of stores and restaurants in Broward and Palm Beach counties, the Sun-Sentinel said.
