Bomb squad detonates 50-year-old rivets

MIAMISBURG, Ohio, April 19 (UPI) -- A bomb squad in Ohio blew up a box of 50-year-old crystallized rivets, police said.

The Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported Sunday that Miamisburg police were called Saturday after a man found the box inside his shed and noticed it was oil-soaked.

The rivets looked like "hollowed out screws" and contained explosive material inside them, Miamisburg Police Sgt. Joan Manning said.

The man told police he believed the box belonged to his father, who had lived in the house.

Manning said the bomb squad was called in after police inspected the box.
