7 killed in Maoist attack in India

LATEHAR, India, April 16 (UPI) -- A bus carrying border security personnel hit a landmine Thursday, killing seven people, including five troops, authorities said.

The attack, which occurred about 7:30 a.m. in Latehar district as the bus traveled from Ladhup to Arah, was blamed on Maoist militants intent on disrupting India's elections, The Times of India reported.

It was the second day in a row a landmine had been detonated. On Wednesday, a bus driver was killed when the explosive device went off, and seven people, including five militants died in the ensuring fight.
