Indian PM: Pakistan must address terrorism

NEW DELHI, April 15 (UPI) -- Talks with Pakistan won't resume as long as terrorists use the country as a springboard to attack India, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Wednesday.

Pakistan also must show a sincere effort to bring to justice those behind the November attack on Mumbai in which more than 160 people died, the Press Trust of India reported.

"The present situation is (such that) so long as Pakistan chooses to allow its territory to be used against India, no negotiation can take place," Singh said during an appearance at the Editors Guild of India. "We are for engagement with Pakistan but Pakistan must prove its sincerity by bringing the perpetrators of (the Mumbai) attacks to book."

Asked about whether India should become more involved in the new U.S. policy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Singh said, "We are worried about growth of terrorist elements both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. If the international community and the U.S. work to eliminate terror, in this we are willing to cooperate with them."
