Poll: Obama has clear economic plan

WASHINGTON, April 14 (UPI) -- Nearly six in 10 respondents say U.S. President Barack Obama has a clear plan for solving the nation's economic ills, a CNN poll released Tuesday indicated.

Fifty-eight percent of people questioned in a CNN-Opinion Research Corp. poll indicated they thought Obama had an unambiguous road map to deal with the recession. In contrast, the poll indicated 24 percent of those asked said congressional Republicans have no clear economic plan.

"Not surprisingly, Republicans don't think that Obama has a clear plan for economic recovery," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "But Republicans also don't think that the GOP leaders in Congress have a clear plan, either. Only 36 percent of Republicans nationwide believe that the GOP leadership has a clear plan; six in 10 Republicans don't feel that way."

Sixty-two percent of those surveyed say Obama exhibits bipartisan effort with the congressional GOP, down from 74 percent in February, but ahead of the 37 percent who said congressional Republicans are doing enough to cooperate with Obama.

The CNN-Opinion Research Corp. nationwide telephone survey interviewed 1,023 adults April 3-5. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
