NEW DELHI, April 14 (UPI) -- A senior officer in India's military says Taliban forces are not active in the country.
Army Chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor on Tuesday said there is no "trace" of the Taliban in the country, discounting reports that Taliban elements are training women there for terrorist acts, Press Trust of India reported Tuesday.
"Whosoever tries to disturb peace and stability of the region, he will be dealt with in the same fashion and will be neutralized," he was quoted as saying.
Kapoor said the military officials had foreseen the rise in militant infiltration amid national elections and were prepared to take action.
"We had already foreseen all this happening and we were quite well prepared for it and that is why our troops were there on the Line of Control and deployed in three tiers to be able to check infiltration," he said.
