Cafe patron shot in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, April 12 (UPI) -- Patrons at a cafe in the Netherlands grabbed a man who allegedly shot four people early Saturday, killing one, and restrained him until police arrived.

Gerde Jung, a spokesman for the Rotterdam police, told CNN a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Jung said the alleged killer, 45, may have left the cafe after an argument and then returned. Jung said the motive was not clear.

A talent competition was going on at the cafe when the shooting broke out, Dutch newspapers said.

Shootings are rare in the Netherlands, where legal ownership of guns by civilians is almost impossible. But guns are relatively easy to smuggle in from Belgium, where laws are less restrictive, the report said.
