LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- The California physician who operated on the mother of rapper Kanye West a day before she died has surrendered his medical license, officials say.

The action comes nearly two years after the Medical Board of California sought to revoke or suspend the license of plastic surgeon Jan Adams because of multiple alcohol-related convictions, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Adams came under scrutiny after Donda West, 58, died one day after he performed numerous surgical procedures on her in his Brentwood-area office in 2007.

The coroner's office ruled West "died from some pre-existing coronary artery disease and multiple postoperative factors following surgery," including pain-control medication and the tight bandaging of her chest that may have limited breathing.

Adams had three convictions for alcohol-related offenses from 2003-06, the Times said.

Under state law, he can reapply for his license in three years but will have to prove he has conquered his drinking problem.
