FEC disposes of five matters

WASHINGTON, April 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. federal election watchdog said it closed five cases, voting to take no action in one and finding no reason to think a violation occurred in another.

In one matter under review, the Federal Election Commission said Friday it found reason to believe reporting loans by Arizona Democrat Ellen Simon, Ellen Simon for Congress campaign and the campaign treasurer violated FEC campaign laws, but exercised its discretion to take no further action in the misreporting and closed the file.

The FEC said it closed the matter against David Orentlicher for Congress and the campaign's treasurer saying it found no violations in how campaign contributions were designated.

The elections watchdog also dismissed three cases outright.
