Man charged with killing mum and daughter

AYR, Scotland, April 9 (UPI) -- A neighbor was charged Thursday with killing a mother and daughter whose bodies were found on a Scottish roadside days after they vanished.

Thomas Smith, 26, did not enter a plea during a brief appearance in Ayr Sheriff Court, The Scotsman reported. He was charged with the murders of Diane Fallon, 43, and her daughter, Holly, 10, and with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Fallon and her daughter had not been seen since March 28, when a neighbor spotted them returning to their home in Cronberry, a village in a rural area in East Ayrshire. They were reported missing after Holly failed to appear in school.

Their bodies were discovered late Wednesday off the A70, not far from Cronberry.

"Diane and Holly took care of each other," said Angie Dabrowski, a friend. "Sometimes I wonder who was the mum and who was the daughter. They were very close."

Fallon had three other children who live in England, Amy Henney, 18, of Watford, Robbie, 16, and Alex, 13.
