BOSTON, April 8 (UPI) -- Anti-racism activists say a planned conference of white supremacist leaders in Boston has been canceled.
The Boston Anti-Racist Coalition informed the Boston Globe that the owners of the VFW hall rented for this weekend's meeting had pulled the plug on the event.
"We don't know how much the VFW knew about the nature of the event," a coalition spokesman said. "Obviously, they're embarrassed that they were about to let white supremacist, racist groups and bands come into their hall."
The Globe said Wednesday that city officials apparently were unaware of the planned conference but were looking into the matter.
Police officials denied they had put any pressure on the VFW to cancel the reservation.
Leaders of the White Revolution, which planned the gathering, said they would meet at an undisclosed location.
