Turks look forward to Obama visit

ANKARA, Turkey, April 4 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama seems likely to get a warm welcome when he visits Turkey with many Turks saying they like him more than they do his country.

"I have a bad impression of America because they are so fond of making wars," Yurdagul Ozman told The Washington Post. "But I think Obama can change that."

Ozman, 29, works in an Ankara food shop. She says she thinks Obama is "so peaceful."

Obama is to arrive Sunday night for a two-day visit split between the capital of Ankara, where he is to address the Turkish Parliament, and the largest city, Istanbul.

"Obama is going to just mesmerize people," said Ali Carkoglu, who teaches political science at Sabanci University in Istanbul. "He's going to be a rock star."

Turkey, with 72 million people, is both majority Muslim and secular. As a bridge between Europe and the Middle East, the country's relationship with the United States is critical.
