Taliban takes credit for N.Y. massacre

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, April 4 (UPI) -- A Taliban leader in Pakistan claimed Saturday the mass shooting at an immigration center in New York was carried out by his group.

Analysts called Baitullah Mehsood's claim "far-fetched," Press Trust of India reported. Police in Binghamton, N.Y., say a Vietnamese immigrant who had taken English classes at the center, fatally shot 13 people before taking his own life.

But Mehsood told reporters in Pakistan that a Pakistani and another man were responsible for the massacre, PTI reported. He said his group had already promised to carry out terrorist attacks in the United States if U.S. drone attacks on the Taliban in Pakistan continue.

Mehsood also claimed a suicide attack on a convoy in North Waziristan that took the lives of 17 people, including five children. He said that attack was specifically in retaliation for a drone attack Saturday that killed 13 people.
