Woman accused of injecting bleach

LUFKIN, Texas, April 2 (UPI) -- A former Texas nurse is facing charges she injected bleach into the veins of 10 people, killing five of them, authorities say.

An Angelina County grand jury indicted Kimberly Saenz, 35, of Pollok Tuesday and she turned herself in to the county jail Wednesday, KTRE-TV in Lufkin reported. She was being held without bond.

Saenz, who initially had been arrested last May on suspicion of harming two patients, is now accused of killing five patients at the DaVita Dialysis Center and injurying five other people.

Saenz, who had worked at DaVita for eight months until being fired last April, is suspected in the deaths of Clara Strange, Thelma Metcalf, Garlin Kelley, Cora Bryant and Opal Few. She is accused of causing bodily injury to Marva Rhone, Carolyn Risinger, Debra Oates, Graciela Castenada and Marie Bradley.

"The grand jury has issued an indictment for capital murder for the death of five patients and further, five additional indictments for aggravated assault," Larry Crisp, regional vice president for DaVita, said.

"Our patients and the caregivers have been outraged at how the alleged actions of one person have caused so much pain and trauma to so many."

DaVita closed April 28, 2008, following a string of unusual deaths and reopened July 2, 2008, after satisfying state requirements.
