Family missing for 2 weeks in Black Hills

SILVER CITY, S.D., April 2 (UPI) -- Investigators said they believe a Nebraska family missing for almost two weeks may have vanished while on a Black Hills camping trip in South Dakota.

The search continued in the South Dakota vacation area Thursday for Matthew Schade, his wife, Rowena, and their children ages 8 and 11, of Creighton, Neb., missing since March 20.

The family's car was found Tuesday in nearby Silver City, S.D., by the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, CNN reported.

"The Forest Service property is a popular camping area, although, you usually don't see people camping out there this time of year," said Maj. Brian Mueller of the sheriff's office.

Two major blizzards have hit western South Dakota in the past two weeks, the latest Monday which Mueller told CNN "rolled in real fast."

The family was last seen in Knox County, Neb., which includes Creighton, CNN said.
