CLEVELAND, April 2 (UPI) -- The Vatican is investigating whether the late Pope John Paul II is responsible for a Cleveland man's "one-in-a-million" recovery from a bullet in the head.
The Rev. Art Snedeker, a chaplain at the Metro Health Medical Center, said he gave Jory Aebly a rosary blessed by the pope, ABC News reported.
"I stand before you today and can say, to my mind, Jory is a miracle," Snedeker said at a news conference Tuesday.
Aebly was shot during a mugging five weeks ago. The hospital says doctors told his family at the time that he would not survive.
Dr. Robert Geertman, a neurosurgeon involved in the case, called his recovery "pretty miraculous."
"It's one in a million," Geertman said.
Snedeker said John Paul gave him a dozen rosaries and said he would always pray for patients at the hospital. He said after Aebly was admitted he performed the sacrament for the sick and asked the pope to pray for him.
John Paul is on the fast track for sainthood. For beatification, he needs to be found to be a person of heroic virtue and to have one miracle certified.
