Drug Suboxone linked to student death

MILWAUKEE, April 1 (UPI) -- The prescription drug Suboxone may have been involved in the death of a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman, a university official says.

University spokesman Tom Luljak said investigators suspect 19-year-old Luke David Murphy may have ingested the drug used to treat heroin addiction along with alcohol prior to his death in a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee dorm suite, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said Wednesday.

Murphy was found unresponsive in the dorm suite Monday by his girlfriend. The woman reportedly told investigators she saw Murphy take pills Sunday while drinking alcohol at a friend's house.

Luljak said investigators are awaiting a toxicology report to determine an official cause of death in the case.

The university spokesman told the Journal Sentinel that the two unidentified University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students arrested by police in connection with the teen's death could face school disciplinary action.

"This is an enormous tragedy and one that the university administration takes very, very seriously," Luljak said.
