Cuban artists hold impromptu protest

HAVANA, March 31 (UPI) -- An art festival in Cuba turned into an impromptu freedom cry for citizens of the communist island, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

During the 10th Havana Biennial, an international art festival in the Cuban capital, Cubans and visitors chanted "libertad" (freedom) repeatedly.

Though there were no reports of reaction from the Cuban government to the public display of discontent with the government, Spanish publication Cuba Encuentro reported that the sound system for the festival was turned off by officials.

The Cuban government regularly cracks down on dissidents and forbids organized protests.
