ROSEBURG, Ore., March 27 (UPI) -- More than 10 years after a teenager vanished while babysitting her cousins in a small Oregon town, her bones have been identified, police said.
Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin announced Wednesday that a dog walker found the remains of Stephanie Condon March 13 near a logging road in Glide, The Portland Oregonian reported. Glide is about 60 miles up Interstate 5 from Riddle, the town of 1,000 where Stephanie's family still lives.
"This is certainly not what anyone hoped for after 10 years, but it's an outcome we've tried to prepare for," Marty Condon, Stephanie's father, said in a statement. "My family is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. It will take time."
Dale Wayne Hill, 39, a suspect in Stephanie's disappearance was picked up Wednesday in Nevada on a charge of failing to register as a convicted felon.
Stephanie, a 14-year-old high school sophomore, vanished in 1998 from her cousin's house in Tri City, 5 miles from Riddle. Cheryl Richey said when she returned home from an evening at a tavern her twins were asleep and Stephanie was nowhere to be found.
