Chicago hospital to discipline workers

CHICAGO, March 27 (UPI) -- The University of Chicago Medical Center says it will take disciplinary action against employees who may have contributed to the death of an elderly patient.

Hospital officials said the patient was brought to the emergency room Feb. 3 and died the same day, Crain's Chicago Business reported Friday.

Citing privacy rules, the medical center has not identified the patient nor elaborated on the cause of death.

"Our investigation found that proper policies and procedures were in place but staff members may not have followed the protocol," the hospital said in a statement. "Appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken."
