EDINBURGH, Scotland, March 25 (UPI) -- Vandals attacked the Edinburgh home of Fred Goodwin, the former chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland, police said Wednesday.
Police arriving around 4 a.m. to the house in the exclusive suburb of Morningside found at least four smashed ground-floor windows and vandalism to a black Mercedes, The Times of London reported.
Goodwin has become the object of anger in Britain for receiving a $24 million pension after quitting RBS, which under his watch collapsed under the weight of bad investments and has required $50 billion in taxpayer bailout funds to stay afloat.
Goodwin's neighbors expressed anger and disgust toward the former executive. John Llewelyn told The Times: "My wife and I are seeing an independent financial adviser together and we have suddenly realized our investments and savings have been dramatically affected, like everyone's. We put Sir Fred in that context. He is part of the story. We can't help feeling that way. It is upsetting."
Llewelyn said security officers had parked in the area regularly in recent months, while another unnamed neighbor quoted one of the officers saying Goodwin seemed very aloof and had not even offered him a cup of tea.
