MIAMI BEACH, Fla., March 25 (UPI) -- A police report says Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth claimed he tried to warn a pedestrian before striking him with his car in a Miami Beach street.

Stallworth told officers he flashed the lights of his Bentley when he saw Mario Reyes, who was struck and killed March 14, crossing the street in front of him, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

The report said Stallworth was allegedly going about 50 mph in a 40 mph zone and that Reyes was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

A number of witnesses called 911 to report the accident, which occurred around 7 a.m. EDT on the busy MacArthur Causeway.

Stallworth has not been charged although the Herald said that a source had told them Stallworth had failed a sobriety test.

Police said the case was still being reviewed by detectives and prosecutors.
