SANTA FE, N.M., March 24 (UPI) -- A Santa Fe, N.M., woman says she blames her stage II breast cancer on "therapy" treatments given her by an old friend who owns a pet store.
Ann McGrath is suing Laura Moore for allegedly convincing McGrath to forgo a mammogram in favor of treatments on a Bicom 2000 at Moore's pet store, The Albuquerque Journal reported Tuesday.
The Bicom 2000 is a "bioresonance therapy" machine for animals with allergies, said the manufacturer's Web site, which claims the machine works via electrodes conducting "frequency pattern" information to and from the body.
In her District Court lawsuit, McGrath said she discovered a pea-sized lump in her right breast in July 2007 and underwent four treatments with Moore on the Bicom 2000 before realizing late in 2007 the lump was growing. In February 2008, after a mammogram, McGrath said she was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer and since has undergone a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation.
Moore said she never claimed she was a doctor and is shocked by McGrath's lawsuit.
"I am not a people-treatment person," Moore said to the Journal. "I have a dog food store."
