PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, March 24 (UPI) -- Haiti has received 100 tons of voting equipment for its upcoming elections, the United Nations said Tuesday.

The voting booths and other materials for the impoverished Caribbean nation's 11,000 voting locations are being distributed ahead of the April 19 Senate elections, the U.N. said in a news release.

The election comes amid an ongoing mission by the U.N. Stabilization Mission in Haiti, known in the French as MINUSTAH, which has been in charge of the country's security since the 2004 insurgency that forced than-President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to flee the country.
