SIDON, Lebanon, March 23 (UPI) -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the bombing that killed No. 2 Palestinian leader Kamal Medhat and three of his bodyguards Monday in Lebanon.
Ban said he hoped the killers of the Fatah official near the Mieh Miyeh refugee camp are "brought to justice promptly," the United Nations said in a statement issued at its headquarters in New York.
"Such actions must not be allowed to endanger the climate of calm that currently prevails in Lebanon," the statement added.
The U.N. statement cited media reports saying a roadside bomb exploded as Medhat's convoy was leaving the refugee camp in southern Lebanon.
CNN reported the Lebanese army was investigating but there was no immediate information on who might have been responsible for the bombing.
More than 200,000 Palestinian refugees are living in 12 camps throughout Lebanon.
