Alleged killer feuded with parole officer

OAKLAND, Calif., March 23 (UPI) -- A man who allegedly killed four Oakland, Calif., police officers last weekend skipped a meeting with his parole officer before the slayings, family members say.

Lovelle Mixon, a parolee who was slain by police after the Saturday shootings, skipped a home visit from his parole officer three weeks ago because he was mad at the agent, whom he claimed had missed earlier appointments, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Mixon's grandmother, Mary Mixon, told the newspaper her grandson had even claimed that he was even willing to go back to prison so he could be assigned a new parole officer.

"We're crushed that this happened," she said. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the officers' families. … This shouldn't have happened."

Authorities say Mixon killed three Oakland police sergeants in a pair of related incidents that was among the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in California history. A fourth officer died later in a hospital, officials said.

Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Gordon Hinkle told the Chronicle it was "highly unlikely" Mixon's parole agent had missed a meeting, but added he was looking into the matter.
