BANGKOK, March 21 (UPI) -- Thai police say a tip from colleagues in the United States led to the arrest of three alleged big-time drug traffickers.
The three were picked up by Thai authorities acting on information provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which tied the suspects to a drug ring operating in the United States, the Thai News Agency reported.
TNA said the trio allegedly smuggled unspecified narcotics into Thailand from a production factory in neighboring Myanmar, formerly called Burma. The product was then moved into other Southeast Asian nations and into the United States and Canada.
The suspects were identified by the Department of Special Investigation as Peerayuth Phetsakol, Charn-narong Muser and Vicharn Suthiphan. Officials said Vicharn and Charn-narong were related to Kuhn Sa, the legendary "Opium King" of the region who was finally arrested in Myanmar in 1996 and died in 2007.
