Neighbor charged in 2003 LA slayings

LOS ANGELES, March 18 (UPI) -- Prosecutors say a neighbor has been arrested in the 2003 shooting deaths of three people in a secure apartment building in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles.

Robin Kyu Cho, 50, was arraigned Wednesday on three counts of capital murder in the deaths of neighbor Chi Hyon Song, her 2-year-old son, and the child's 56-year-old nanny.

Cho was picked up on Monday by Los Angeles police detectives and could face the death penalty if convicted, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said in a written statement.

Song was the wife of Byung C. Song, owner of a clothing wholesale company in the downtown Garment District.

The arrests capped a long and sometime baffling investigation for the LAPD. The Los Angeles Times said the killer had managed to dodge an extensive network of surveillance cameras. In addition, Song's purse was missing from the scene, but later turned up at her church.

Investigators did not comment on a motive for the slayings, but told the Times that Cho was tied to the crime through physical and circumstantial evidence.
