New fraud software monitors China journals

BEIJING, March 17 (UPI) -- Editors of academic journals published in China say they have started using new software that will help detect plagiarism.

The Academic Misconduct Literature Check was developed in China and is being used to cross-check articles submitted for publication against more than 60 million previously published papers from 7,500 journals and conference presentations.

China's Xinhua news agency said Tuesday that program was developed by China Academic Journals Electronic Publishing House and Tsinghua Tongfang Knowledge Network Technology Group in the wake of earlier academic fraud scandals.

There is a slight loophole in the program; however, in that it can only check documents written in Chinese.
