WASHINGTON, March 16 (UPI) -- Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they approve of the job U.S. President Barack Obama is doing, a CNN poll released Monday indicated.
The national poll found that Obama's job approval rating is 64 percent, down 3 percentage points from mid-February.
On the economy, the poll found that 59 percent of Americans approve of the Democratic president's performance, while 40 percent of respondents disapproved.
"Most of the Americans who disapprove of Obama are Republicans," said Keating Holland, CNN polling director. "His approval rating is 59 percent among independents and over 90 percent among Democrats, but two-thirds of Republicans have a negative view of his actions in office so far."
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey found that 86 percent of Americans say they hope Obama's policies will succeed, with 11 percent rooting for his policies to fail.
"One in four Republicans wants Obama's policies to fail," Holland said. "But six in 10 Republicans think the president will fail."
The poll was conducted Thursday through Sunday, with 1,019 adult Americans. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
