ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 9 (UPI) -- The Pakistani man believed responsible for a terrorist attack on a cricket team's bus escaped capture Monday in a Punjab police raid, sources say.
Citing unnamed police sources, The Times of London said suspect Mohammed Aqeel, an alleged activist in Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a militant group linked to al-Qaida, fled his home before the early-morning raid. One of his associates was arrested.
Pakistani authorities blame Ageel for organizing the attack on the Sri Lankan national cricket team's bus in Lahore last week, during which a group of up to 14 gunmen killed eight people and injured seven others.
Sources told The Times police fear most of the gunmen involved in the terror attack have fled to the lawless tribal regions in Pakistan's northwestern frontier.
Four artists' sketches of the gunmen have been produced while more than two dozen suspects have been detained and questioned in raids across Punjab, the newspaper said.
