Bolivia calls for U.S. diplomat expulsion

LA PAZ, Bolivia, March 9 (UPI) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales has called for the expulsion of a U.S. diplomat he accused of working with opposition groups to incite unrest.

Morales said the diplomat, U.S. Embassy political officer Francisco Martinez, was in contact with the opposition, whose recent protests turned violent, leaving several people injured, La Razon newspaper reported online Monday. Martinez has been ordered to leave the country within six months.

U.S. officials in Bolivia denied the allegations.

The leftist Bolivian leader in September expelled the U.S. ambassador to Bolivia, saying he was conspiring to provoke the country's break up into separate eastern and western states.
