Shooting suspect complained of nagging

CLEVELAND, March 7 (UPI) -- The former mother-in-law of a man suspected of killing his new wife, her sister and three children tells a Cleveland TV station he complained of nagging.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, told WKYC-TV that Davon Crawford called her daughter not long after the shooting.

"He said he was tired of nagging, nagging him," she said.

She said her daughter heard twice from Crawford this week. On Monday, when he married Lechea Crawford, he sent a text message telling his former wife it was "the happiest day of his life."

Crawford, 33, took his own life Friday afternoon as police surrounded him in a duplex 3 miles from the shootings. A few hours later, friends and relatives held a vigil for the victims outside their house.

The former mother-in-law said Crawford was convicted of felonious assault for shooting at her daughter while she was holding their baby. The bullet missed because she leaned over to put the baby down.

"He has a problem, mentally,'' she said. "And he snapped yesterday ... I was always afraid of that when he was with my daughter."
