MELBOURNE, March 6 (UPI) -- Police in Australia say they have received calls from residents throughout the state of Victoria following Friday's 4.6 magnitude earthquake.
The Melbourne Herald-Sun said the quake, whose epicenter was in the Victorian town of Korumburra, knocked some residents off their couches and shook buildings in parts of the state.
While some Victorian homes did temporarily lose power as a result of the quake, no property damage or injuries were reported.
Geoscience Australia duty seismologist Phil Cummins said the lack of damage caused by the quake is to be expected.
"It was certainly a moderate earthquake that was likely to be felt across a wide area but is unlikely to have caused any damage, except possibly some minor damage near the epicenter,'' Cummins said to the newspaper.
A State Emergency Service spokesman told the Herald-Sun that Victorian residents should turn off their homes' electricity and gas before leaving the property if they are concerned with potential property damage.
