Plane lands safely at Kennedy

NEW YORK, March 3 (UPI) -- Authorities say a passenger plane with a faulty landing gear light landed safely Tuesday after diverting to Kennedy Airport in New York.

U.S. Airways Express Flight 4042 was en route to LaGuardia Airport from Norfolk, Va., when the indicator light for the landing gear failed to come on and the crew believed the gear hadn't extended, Newsday reported.

The plane, with 39 passengers and three crew aboard, diverted to Kennedy, which has much longer runways than LaGuardia. The plane was cleared to land after flying by the Kennedy control tower, which confirmed the landing gear had extended, Newsday reported.
