NEW DELHI, March 3 (UPI) -- U.S. FBI chief Robert Mueller met with Indian security officials Tuesday in New Delhi to discuss terrorism and related issues, observers said.

Mueller met with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and was to have discussions with National Security Adviser M. K. Narayanan and Intelligence Bureau Chief Rajiv Mathur, the Press Trust of India reported.

The FBI is seeking to forge closer ties with Indian intelligence in the wake of the November Mumbai terror assaults, in which the U.S. agency played a key role in helping determine that the attacks were at least partly planned and carried out from Pakistan, the news agency said.

During the Mumbai probe, the FBI helped Indian investigators interpret critical technical evidence, including Voice over Internet Protocol and other details related to the use of satellite phones by the Mumbai attackers, PTI reported.
