Ex: Octuplets mom's kids not his

NEW YORK, March 3 (UPI) -- The ex-husband of octuplets mom Nadya Suleman told a U.S. tabloid show they separated in 2000 because they could not conceive children together.

In an interview with "Inside Edition," Marcos Gutierrez said none of Suleman's 14 children are his.

Suleman, 33, gave birth to octuplets in January, setting off a firestorm over the ethics of implanting a single mother who already had six children with six embryos. Hospital officials also are reluctant to release the babies into Suleman's custody until she can prove she can care for them. She currently lives with her parents, whose home is threatened with foreclosure.

Gutierrez, who has since remarried, said he wishes Suleman the best.

"She was my ex-wife … They are not my kids, but I wish her the best … I still want her to be happy. Happiness for her is to have all these kids," he said in the interview.

Gutierrez and Suleman married in 1996. Their divorce was finalized in January 2008.
