Biker headed to jail for reckless speeding

EXETER, England, March 2 (UPI) -- A motorcyclist in Britain will spend six months in jail for going 122 mph on his vehicle while his 14-year-old son was a passenger, a court says.

Britain's Exeter Crown Court ruled Monday that in addition to his jail sentence, Robert Bennett, 47, will be banned from operating a vehicle on British roads for 18 months, The Times of London said.

Bennett pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving after he was captured speeding on his 1300cc Suzuki motorcycle by a police camera.

"It (the Suzuki GSX-R) is the fastest bike around and it has a top speed of 220 mph. But I hold my hands up. I was doing 122 mph on that road and that was dangerous, especially with my lad on board," Bennett said in a prior court hearing.

The presiding judge heard during Bennett's hearings that the father had accelerated to 122 mph because it had begun to rain, The Times said.

No date was given for the speeding incident involving Bennett, who previously had a clean driving record in regards to speeding, the newspaper said.
