AG notifies Olmert of possible indictment

JERUSALEM, March 2 (UPI) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert might be indicted on corruption charges, Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has indicated.

The attorney general notified Olmert's lawyers Sunday that he was considering charging the prime minister with fraud and breach of confidence, CNN reported.

The charges stem from accusations that Olmert, when he was mayor of Jerusalem, used his office to benefit U.S. businessman Morris Talansky in exchange for funds that prosecutors say were illegal but which Olmert says were legal campaign funding.

No date has been set for a planned hearing in which Olmert will answer Mazuz and the attorney general will make the final decision on whether to indict Olmert, the U.S. broadcaster reported.
