BUDAPEST, Hungary, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Recent attacks on Roma in Hungary, which have caused the deaths of four people, appear to be related, Hungarian police said Friday.
Police released a report that criticized the work of officers investigating the deaths of a Roma father and son, MTI reported. The father and the 5-year-old boy were gunned down as they tried to escape their burning home.
Sandor Armos, head of police in Pest County, said investigators did not examine the scene carefully and missed bullets found close to the house.
Istvan Hazi of the National Police said a suspect was being questioned in another attack. A Roma couple was killed when their house was attacked with a hand grenade, although their children survived.
The Roma, commonly known as Gypsies, live in most European countries. Their ancestry has been traced back to India.
"Evidence so far discovered suggest that we are dealing with a series of crimes, with perpetrators from the same circle of criminals," Attila Petofi of the National Investigation Office said.
