ARUSHA, Tanzania, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A former military chaplain was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for the abduction and killing of Tutsis during the Rwandan massacre in 1994.
Emmanuel Rukundo, 50, was found guilty of genocide by the three-judge International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, Britain's Guardian newspaper reports.
The panel found that on at least four occasions, Rukundo played an integral role in kidnapping and killing Tutsi refugees who sought shelter in a seminary.
The court said that Rukundo kept a list of local Tutsis and monitored their movements. He was also accused of sexually assaulting a women and being present when soldiers in the Rwandan armed forces abducted and killed a woman.
Some 800,000 Tutsis were massacred by the Hutu majority in Rwanda in 1994.
