DHAKA, Bangladesh, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The deadly rebellion that took place at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in the Bangladesh city of Dhaka has prompted mass unrest, sources say.

Sources told The Daily Star Thursday that civil unrest has taken place in cities throughout Bangladesh including Rajshahi and Chittagong in apparent response to the bloody BDR mutiny that ended Wednesday.

BDR troops reportedly opened fire in Rajshahi Thursday as part of demonstrations in support of their revolutionary colleagues. No related injuries or fatalities were reported.

Meanwhile, gunfire emanating from a BDR training camp in Satkania caused mass panic in Chittagong Thursday.

The Star said area rebels have begun barricading nearby roads, significantly disrupting transport travel around the city.

Gunshots and smoke were also emanating from a BDR camp in Jaylaskar Thursday, local sources said. Such discoveries prompted area civilians to flee their homes as a precaution.

One state minister said the death toll from the revolt by BDR members has reached nearly 50 people, the Daily Star reported.
