Jewish family leaves Yemen in secret

TEL AVIV, Israel, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A Jewish man living in Yemen says he decided to move his family to Israel after a grenade was tossed into his home in the the town of Raida.

A clandestine airlift arranged by the Jewish Agency took Sa'adia Ben-Yisrael, his wife and seven children to Tel Aviv, Ynetnews reported Friday.

The family, along with a bachelor who lived in the same town, arrived to a storm of media attention Thursday.

Officials say most of the 280 Jews remaining in Yemen live in Raida. The rest are residents of Sanaa, Ynetnews said

Rabbi Moshe Tenami has been working to move Yemen's Jews to Israel over the past few years.

"They're actually in great danger, not long ago someone was murdered there," the rabbi said to Ynetnews.
