MEDELLIN, Colombia, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Eight people were hurt when a DC-3 on a mission to ferry police officers was ripped by an explosion while at a Medellin, Colombia, airport, authorities said.
The aircraft had arrived from Bogota to pick up 27 members of Colombia's special forces and was to have transported them to Choco, Colombia Reports said Wednesday.
Four of the eight officials who were wounded suffered substantial injuries. The plane reportedly broke in two pieces.
While the blast appeared to be accidental, anti-explosives personnel were brought in to investigate, Colombia Reports said.
Although authorities assume that it concerns some sort of accident, they did order anti-explosive units to investigate the location.
The incident occurred at Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport, which has become a secondary facility in Medellin since completion of Jose Maria Cordova International Airport.
