Fire kills 15 in Russia

MOSCOW, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Authorities in southern Russia say 15 people died and three were missing after a fast-moving fire in an apartment building made of wood in the Astrakhan Region.

Seven people remained hospitalized from Saturday night's fire in the village of Molodezhny, RIA Novosti reported Sunday.

A preliminary investigation blamed the cause on the careless handling of fire, RIA Novosti reported, giving no other details about the cause.

Last week, fire killed 23 people in a care facility for the elderly in the Republic of Komi in northwest Russia. That structure was also made of wood, RIA Novosti said.
