Mexican warden, guards face arrest

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The warden and 18 guards at a prison in northern Mexico have been named in an arrest warrant related to a deadly prison break, officials say.

The Attorney General's Office said Friday three more guards from the prison in the Coahuila state city of Torreon had already been arrested, the Latin American Herald Tribune reported Saturday. They are accused of aiding the escape of a prisoner and other charges, the office said.

Armed intruders entered the prison around midnight Monday, killing three inmates and freeing nine others, the newspaper said.

The daily El Universal reported Friday the attackers allegedly had gone to the warden's home, and forced him to go with them and make a telephone call to the prison during which he ordered the guards to let the armed group inside.
