Chicago police probing Obama slur claim

CHICAGO, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Chicago police said they are investigating whether a city police officer made a racial slur about President Barack Obama in a phone call to an FBI agent.

A police spokeswoman said no evidence so far indicates a police officer was involved, but an internal investigation was undertaken in the wake of the allegations, Chicago media reported.

The incident reportedly happened earlier this week and the call allegedly was made from a Northwest Side home, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday. Officers reportedly were at the residence investigating a death when the call was made, a law enforcement source said.

At least one phone call was made to an FBI agent and racist comments allegedly were captured on voice mail, Chicago television station WMAQ reported.

Asked about the case, police spokeswoman Monique Bond said in a statement, "There is no evidence to indicate that Chicago police officers are involved in the reported allegations. As a matter of course, we have launched an investigation into the matter."
