Woman alleges Disney ride caused stroke

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old British woman alleges in a lawsuit against Walt Disney World that she suffered a stroke as a result of a ride at the Florida theme park.

The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel said Friday that Leanne Deacon filed a state circuit court lawsuit against the theme park over a disabling stroke and heart attack she suffered in 2005.

Deacon, who was 16 when the heart conditions surfaced, alleges in her lawsuit that they were caused by the theme park's Tower of Terror ride.

Deacon suffered a brain hemorrhage when her heart stopped on July 12, 2005, shortly after she rode the Disney's Hollywood Studios ride.

The Tower of Terror repeatedly raises passengers into the air before plunging them downward at high speeds.

The lawsuit, whose co-plaintiff is Deacon's mother, accuses Disney of not properly advertising the ride's risks and providing appropriate safety precautions.

The Sentinel said the suit, which is seeking at least $15,000, also alleges negligence in regards to the Tower of Terror's design and operation.
